The "Atelier" model is a derivative of the "Studio" model. The "Studio", as its name indicates, was intended for commercial studio photographers. These latter found tiresome to have to unscrew the camera from the tripod to change the film. In order to correct that, the "Atelier" was designed interdependent of a base, which was directly secured to the tripod. To change the film, it was necessary to unscrew a serrated roller. Then the camera tilts forward, whereas it remains attached to the base by an axis, visible in front of the camera. The metal arch prevents the lenses from a shock during the tilt movement.

To advance film, the crank lever should be used. But the shutter (a Synchro-compur) cocking is separately done. To cock it, it is necessary to move the left the lever located under the lens towards left (a little lever hidden by the metal arch on the photograph). To shot, it is the same lever, which must be moved towards the right.

The shutter speed is selected by turning a ring around the view finding lens (Som Berthiot 1:3,9 f=150 mm).
The aperture is chosen by turning a second ring around the taking lens (Som Berthiot 1:5,4 f=150mm).
Focusing is ensured by the large serrated roller located on the not-visible side of the camera on the picture above.
When focusing with this camera, it the whole front plate with the two lenses which is moving. Cables do the shifting.
